How it was taken, lighting, setting, etc?

I don’t like to get the fences or gates in the frame if I can avoid it, as I try to get candid shots. I’ve tried most angles now, but this week I’ve been lying on the grass looking upward in an extreme effort to avoid the tree and fence lines. Horses are curious and love to sniff/feel and nibble. so as soon as you sit down in the field their curiosity is aroused and they’ll usually come to you. Lie down, feet up and let them nibble your boots. It’s a great workout as the trick is to get your feet out of the frame before they follow the feet downwards. 9 times out of 10 they follow the boot to the ground or are spooked or I’m still attached to a mouth and I have hundreds of blurred shots with foals and boots!! However, when you get one as good as this it’s great and you’ve really worked your diaphram. The other, important trick is not to lie in horse poo.

Which lens did you use?

Taken with a 18-55 kit lens. At first I wasn’t that impressed with it but after working with it for a while and knowing it’s limitations I’m getting some good shots. I don’t like the distortion at the low end.

Why have you turned to equine photography?

Horse photography because they are on my doorstep and in my back garden. They are irresistible. Plus they are my buddy’s. I know. I should get out more.

How was this picture processed?

The flash helped of course and then it was just a case of saturating a bit and darkening the sky, but a very quick job.
Thanks again to all who took the time to view and comment.
